Delprat Garden Internship

Phytoremediation is a scientific term that describes how plants can be used to clean up harmful chemicals and heavy metals from the soil. The Delprat Garden is a special research project that focuses on using this phytoremediation process to improve soil quality and promote natural remediation processes. The plants at Delprat demonstrates how we can use this natural and sustainable method to remove dangerous metals from the ground in an efficient and cost-effective way. 

Positions are available for 10 to 20 hours per week Monday-Friday, subject to necessity, for of period 4 weeks with contracts renewable upon review. Work hours are between 9am – 3pm daily, currently availability is Tues 3 Oct to Fri 20 Oct, 2023. Delprat Garden Internships are paid positions at Higher Education Workers (HEW) 1 Step 1 Casual Rate per hour (rate is approximately $33/hour). Own transport is required. 

INTERNSHIP DUTIES, TRAINING AND RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

• Contractor Induction, Site Induction and Risk Assessment

• Familiarisation and understanding of Delprat Garden project, history of the site, Phytoremediation processes and related data collection and analysis.

• Training for assigned tasks including plant and soil sampling, watering, weeding, garden maintenance.

• Assisting and preparing for Delprat Garden Open Days and other education programs where appropriate.

You will be required to work on a site that is outdoors, and you must follow the site’s work health and safety protocols and risk assessment items. PPE will be supplied, or you can bring your own. If you do not follow the appropriate protocols and safety regulations the internship will end immediately. If this is for work experience requirement, it will be an unpaid position.
